Chinese search engine service provider Baidu said that it has filed a U.S. lawsuit in a New York court against Register.com alleging the latter's negligence in preventing a hacker attack on its website last week.
Baidu stated that due to the gross negligence of Register.com, the domain name registration service provider of Baidu in the United States, the domain name resolution of Baidu.com was illegally and maliciously altered which led to the company's website being disabled for several hours with resulting loss to the company.
According to an insider, in addition to filing the lawsuit against Register.com and claiming for economic compensation, Baidu is considering and evaluating the possibility of moving its domain name management back to China.
On January 12, Baidu's website Baidu.com was disabled for several hours and many internet users in China said that they could not visit the website which was allegedly attacked by a hacker called Iranian Cyber Army.
