Dong Xing, the vice governor of China's Guangdong province, announced at the recent International Consultative Conference on the Future Economic Development of Guangdong, that Guangdong will take a lead in piloting the development of a low carbon economy, which is expected to be a new growth point for the province.
Dong stated that the current adjustment and update of industry structure in Guangdong has provided an optimal chance to develop a low carbon economy. Dong disclosed that since the province lacks coal resources, Guangdong will work to use coal efficiently and will mainly focus on coal gasification. Dong added that a breakthrough in coal gasification technology will bring great opportunities for the economic development of Guangdong.
It is learned that Guangdong is currently completely reliant on other regions for coal. To increase the utility efficiency of coal, Guangdong will operate coal in the way similar to "waste classification" and process it according to the characteristics of each component to meet the demands of different sectors of society.
