The All-China Federation Of Trade Unions says it is deeply concerned with the mistreatment that Wang Hongli, a female employee in Hangzhou, received when she asked her employer for her salary.
Li Shouzhen, a spokesperson of ACFTU, stressed that both the trade union departments of Zhejiang province and Hangzhou have taken timely measures on the matter.
Previously, Wang Hongli, a salesperson for Hangzhou Fengge Clothing Company, was insulted and beaten when she asked the company for her salary. The physical mistreatment caused many wounds for Wang. In addition, Wang's husband was injured in the conflict and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Li pointed out that ACFTU has attached much importance to salary issues and has worked with the relevant departments on inspecting salary payments employees for five consecutive years. Li stated that ACFTU would coordinate with the departments concerned to push for the establishment of a salary payment guarantee system. In addition, it would also make suggestions to the legislation departments on the amendment of the criminal law to severely punish those who deliberately defer workers' salary.
According to Li, from November 15, 2009 to February 5, 2010, ACFTU will carry out a special campaign to address arrears of wages and salaries. Meanwhile, trade unions at all levels will be asked to provide legal aid and legal service to workers when necessary.
