Sony (China) Ltd. has submitted a report to China's General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine for the recall of VGP-AC19V18 AC adaptors that were supplied with Sony Vaio products.
The adaptor has been used in VGC-JS18H/S and VGC-JS18H/P VAIO PCs released to market in October 2008, and the VGP-PRFE1 Vaio docking stations released in February 2006. Altogether 1,715 units are involved in mainland China.
The insulating tape inside the VGP-AC19V18 AC adaptor might move from its original position during use and cause a short circuit that may lead to power trips, electric shock, or combustion of the internal circuitry of Vaio PCs, docking stations, and other peripherals, attached to the devices listed above.
Sony China warns that users should stop using the adaptors until Sony China has changed the improved adaptors at no charge. Users can visit Sony China's official website or dial the hotline to find out more about the repair, or they can take the adaptor and the warranty card to a Sony repair shop for service.
