The Beijing Municipal Reform and Development Commission will conduct an audit on 12 key organizations suspected of pollution, including Pepsi Beijing, Coca-Cola Beijing, and Beijing Huiyuan.
Previously, BMRDC issued a circular which said that a review would be done on each of the companies that are major contributers to the pollution of the city's water pollution and enterprises with an annual energy consumption of more than 10,000 tons of coal.
Beijing's district and county level environment departments are asked to supervise the audit and monitor the results at least once in a month.
In addition, BMRDC has published a list of 15 major energy consuming companies that includes Beijing Benz-DaimlerChrysler Automotive Company, Shougang NEC Electronics Company, and Beijing Heavy Electric Machinery Works. BMRDC asked its affiliates in each district and county to keep a track of the audits on these companies.
So far, Coca-Cola has responded and said that both its water use and its waste water emissions are according to the national standard. And Beijing Benz-DaimlerChrysler Automotive Company said that it had revised its energy saving and emission reduction rules and would make more efforts on saving electricity, waste water treatment and industrial waste treatment by updating its technology.
