Beijing has spent more than CNY100 million reducing the noise of its No. 4 Subway Line which is to be formally put into operation in September this year.
As a main transportation line that runs through Beijing from north to south, Subway Line 4 serves busy business areas and several major education and research institutions in Beijing as well as such vibration-sensitive buildings as Zhongshan Clubhouse and Tansitong's Former Residence. For this reason, great attention has been paid to noise and vibration reduction on the subway during the whole course of its construction.
According to Ding Shukui, the deputy general manager of Beijing Rail Transit Construction Management Company, up to half of the 28 kilometer long subway has adopted technology for reducing noise and vibration, and in particular, ladder-shaped vibration-reducing sleepers have been used on 7.7 kilometers of the line to help reduce noise by 15-20 decibels.
