According to the China Charity and Donation Information Center of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, a total of CNY2.959 billion, both in cash and in-kind donation, was promised in June this year, but only about CNY915 million was fulfilled, accounting for 30.9% of the total.
It is learned that it was mainly enterprise-sponsored donations that failed to fulfill their donations. Liu Youping, vice director of the Charity Information Center, said that some of the donations were not fulfilled because of a lack of credit of the donors, but others were scheduled donations agreed by enterprises.
Liu stated that there is not an effective way or law to supervise companies who make a verbal promise on donations but later do not keep their word.
