Ten Chinese textile companies have jointly released their 2008 corporate social responsibility report and started the implementation of a three-year working plan for social responsibility in the Chinese textile and garment industry at a conference held by the China Textile Industry Association in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The report, which is said to be the first of its kind in China, was compiled based on the requirements of China Sustainability Reporting-Guidelines for Apparel and Textile Enterprises and verified by a third party organization. The report said that China's textile industry is a traditional pillar industry of national economy and, affected by the global financial crisis, the industry experienced negative growth since 2003, however, the textile and garment industry will insist on self-regulation and carry out their corporate social responsibilities.
At the conference, the China National Textile and Apparel Council also initiated a three-year work plan which aims to have 500 textile enterprises adopting CSR management systems reach with 100 textile companies releasing CSR reports according to CSR-GATE guidelines by the end of 2011.
The ten companies including: Jingwei Textile Machinery Company, Huafu Top Dyed Melange Yarn, Shandong Ruyi Group, Huizhou Dajin Apparel Factory, Baoxiniao Group and Jiangsu Hongdou Industry, Beijing Topnew Group, Jodoll Group, HTT Material Technology, and Zhejiang Tiansheng Holding Group, called on Chinese textile enterprises to strengthen their awareness of the need to disclose their social performance information and corporate achievements as well as actively releasing their CSR reports.
