Shanghai has begun the construction of Asia's largest household garbage recovery and transfer system in Wenzao Bang.
According to Shanghai Environment Transporting Company, when the CNY1 billion environmental project is finished, the millions of tons of household garbage produced in urban Shanghai will all be transferred in sealed containers.
The planned capacity of the system is 6,300 tons per day, with the transfer capacity for emergency and other garbage being 700 tons. The system will compress and load the garbage into special sealed containers and transfer it to Laogang Landfill by Wenzao Bang, Huangpu River and other inland waterways to decrease the impact on the urban environment during the transportation of garbage.
Shanghai Environment Transporting Company is said to be working with the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences to develop information management system for the transfer system.
