Hershey China unveiled its Corporate Social Responsibility Report for 2016 and outlined the ways the candy company has been giving back to its Chinese stakeholders.
The company says it is working with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation on a "Good Love Kitchen Project" to help poor primary schools in Henan Province and Liaoning Province. At the same time, a variety of staff volunteer activities in Shanghai is driving cohesion between the company and community.
Through the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, the company last year provided 11 primary schools in Henan Shenqiu County with kitchen equipment to promote the local implementation of the National Nutrition Improvement Program, benefiting students.
This year, the project will continue in Henan Province's Zhoukou City and Shenqiu County and enter for the first time in Liaoning Province's Kazuo County and Chaoyang County. This work is expected to assist nearly 2,000 students.
The company is committed by 2025 to have a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution and a reduction of 2,500 million pounds of packaging waste. In order to achieve this plan, the chocolate company is using new packaging that can reduce waste, further reduce carbon emissions and improve the sustainability of its supply chain.
