From June 7 to July 10, 2010, the All China Federation of Trade Unions is taking five groups of model workers, totaling 1,000 people, to visit the ongoing Shanghai Expo.
It is reported that no less than 60% of these people are national model workers and they have made outstanding contributions in their own fields. The cost involved in their trips will be undertaken by ACFTU, its local affiliates, and the organizations which employ the model workers. In addition, subsidies will be offered to model farming workers to cover the loss of their working time.
It is said that as early as about ten months ago, the Shanghai Municipal Federation of Trade Unions began to make preparations for the model workers' visit and designed five measures for the visit. Apart from the Shanghai Expo venues, the first group of 200 model workers will take the Maglev train to visit Donghai Bridge and Yangshan Deep Water Harbor in Shanghai and will relax in Changshu, Jiangsu province.
ACFTU said that the the move shows the government's concern for model workers and they hoped this will encourage the model workers to continue to play their pioneering role in the society.
