Huawei's 2009 annual report shows that by the end of the year, the company had paid a total of CNY68.5 billion taxes and that it was actively fulfilling its social responsibilities.
While achieving global sales revenues of CNY149.1 billion, Huawei states that it was concerned with sustainable development and was actively fulfilling its responsibilities as a corporate citizen. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the balance between environmental protection and economic development, the elimination of the digital gap, returns to society, and employee welfare.
Huawei further stated that its innovative green network solution has helped clients achieve the best social, economic and environmental benefits by lowering energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Over the course of the year, the energy consumption of all of the company's products were reduced by over 20% compared with that of the previous year. In addition the company deployed over 3,000 new-energy-solution based sites around the world.
In addition, in an effort to reduce digital gap, Huawei is popularizing communications services and providing appropriate solutions to help people in rural areas to access information technology.
Apart from training new communications talent, the company has improved its employee welfare system and paid around CNY1.68 billion for employee welfare.
