Shenzhen Airlines has launched a carbon offset program to enable passengers to exchange their air-miles for tree saplings to offset their carbon emissions.
Shenzhen Airlines says that it was the first airline in China to offset carbon emissions and it will carry out the program in two major ways. One is to remind passengers to calculate the carbon footprint of their journey and increase their environmental awareness. The other is to provide a convenient way or passengers to exchange their air-miles for saplings with which they can offset their carbon footprint.
Shenzhen airlines said that passengers can use exchange 6,000 points for one tree and it has pledged to build up about 100 carbon offset groves with a total of about 1,000 trees across China in the coming decade.
