French automaker Renault is recalling 2,136 Koleos series passenger cars in China from December 25, 2009, because of steering defects.
These cars were made between March 5, 2008, and August 21, 2009. Renault said the products pose a risk of injuries because the securing nut of the steering column on the gearbox may slacken at low speeds when the steering wheel is turned very far in either direction. This could cause the steering column itself to disconnect, resulting in a loss of steering.
Renault said it would notify the car owners about the problem via its after-sales service network, offer to test their cars and the securing nut free of charge to eliminate any possible risks. Meanwhile, the company said that consumers can call its repair centers to make a reservation for the test.
