China's State Food and Drug Administration has suspended the production and sales activities of two companies whose rabies vaccine products were found to be substandard.
The two companies are reported to be Jiangsu Yanshen Biological Stock Company and Forwell Biopharm Company. SFDA said that seven batches of the rabies vaccines for human use which were produced by the two between July and October of 2008 have quality problems. It is learned that these substandard vaccines have already been sold in 27 provinces and regions in China, including Shanxi, Henan, Hainan, Hebei, Anhui, Zhejiang, and Shandong.
So far, SFDA has sent an inspection team to investigate the two companies and the local food and drug departments of the two regions have also organized experts to evaluate the risks caused by the vaccines. They say they will punish the vaccine manufacturers based on the outcome of the investigation.
SFDA has stated that people who have already used these said vaccines can consult with their local vaccination department.
