Shanghai has unveiled an anti-domestic violence center to mark this year's World Anti-Domestic Violence Day, which fell on November 25.
Located at the No. 2 Building of Shanghai Municipal Rescue and Aid Station in Putuo District, the center, which covers a whole floor of the building, provides two bedrooms and six beds in addition to an office, a recreation center, and washing facilities.
The center provides service to women, children and senior citizens in Shanghai who suffer from domestic violence, but the longest these people can stay in the center is seven days.
Victims of domestic violence who need shelter can apply to the local women's federation or the senior citizens' office with their personal ID data and a certificate issued by the police department showing they had reported to the police about the mistreatment they had received at home.
To date, more than 300 police stations in Shanghai have set up domestic violence reporting centers, dealing with complaints on domestic violence.
