China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has released a new rule to ensure the supervision of the packaging of moon cake products to ensure that it is standard, scientific, and effective.
The new rule, which is called "Specifications on the Measurement of Packages of Moon Cakes (provisional)" and formally went effect on September 1, 2009, is based on the mandatory national standard for moon cakes enacted on June 1, 2006. It details the procedures and methods in measuring the packages of moon cake products and specifies such details as the requirements on taking moon cake samples, the requirements for using measuring devices, the testing methods, data processing, and principles in drawing a conclusion from a test. In addition, it also unifies the format of the sample lists, original record forms, and test reports.
As the procedures and methods mentioned in the Specification are set in reference to the Specification for the Examination of the Measurement of Net Weight of Quantitative Packaged Goods, institutions that have been qualified to measure the net weight of quantitative packaged goods are capable of measuring the packages of moon cakes.
To date, AQSIQ has issued a circular, asking its affiliates at various levels to conduct inspections of moon cake packages and submit the results to AQSIQ before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
