Due to a delayed salary payment, about 20 pilots from Okay Airways Company want to terminate their labor contracts with the company.
It is learned that these pilots account for about 30% of the total pilot roster at Okay Airways, which is said to owed them salaries and about CNY13 million for social insurance and house reserve fund. These pilots, many of whom joined Okay Airways before the company was formally established, have already stopped working for Okay Airways.
Okay Airways is said to be facing a major challenge with the resignation of these pilots. To make up for the shortage of pilots as a result of the resignation of these pilots, it has to hire pilots from other airlines.
Between November 14, 2008 and January 23, 2009, Okay suffered a suspended air service because of escalating conflicts among its shareholders. The company resumed service on January 24, 2009, but since then it has suffered from troubles including heavy debt, lawsuits, and unstable personnel.
Okay Airways is the first private airline company in China. It debuted its maiden flight in March 2005.
