Guangzhou Toyota Motor Company and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Company, two Toyota joint ventures in China, have announced the recall of certain Camry, Yaris, VIOS and Corolla cars 2009 due to component defect.
The cars to be recalled include 384,736 Camry sedans produced between May 15, 2006 and December 31, 2008; 22,767 Yaris sedans made between May 15, 2008 and December 31, 2008; 35,523 VIOS cars made between February 18, 2008 and December 25, 2008; and 245;288 Corolla cars produced between May 17, 2007 and December 25, 2008.
It is understood that the recall involves a problem caused by the same component supplier. Because too much grease has been used on the electric window master switch control module on the driver's side in the manufacturing process, an internal short circuit may be caused and this may also lead to the melting damage of the door trim panel in some rare cases.
The two auto makers have promised to replace the defective component free of charge to remove any potential danger. At the same time, consumers can get details about the recall through the two companies' service hotlines (800-830-8888 or 400-830-8888 for Guangzhou Toyota users and 800-810-1210 or 010-64629300 for Tianjin Toyota users.)
