Beijing has halted sales of Xi'an Jahoo's Shenkang Injection because of reports of serious side effects on patients.
Cong Luotuo, a spokesperson for the Beijing Municipal Food and Drug Administration, said that this drug was not widely used by medical institutions in Beijing, but some pharmacists and small hospitals in the city are using or storing it.
Based on a notice of State Food and Drug Administration and the Tianjin Municipal Food and Drug Administration, sales of this product have been stopped, and medical institutions have been asked to seal the suspect products and wait for the final results of the investigation or the recall of the product by its manufacturers.
It is learned that TMFDA issued an emergency circular on May 22, saying that many reports had been received from within the city on the side effects of Shenkang Injection produced by Xi'an Jahoo. It is reported that drug can cause severe reactions and even death to patients. So far, there are no reports of such side effects in Beijing.
As a "patent TCM product", Shenkang Injection is used to cure chronic renal failure. The manufacturer states that its side effects may include redness, pain, itching, and skin rashes.
According to Chinese media, Xi'an Jahoo has ceased operation and is being investigated by the local authorities.
