Yilong Primary School, Pucheng County, in Weinan has initiated a program which aims to enable students from poverty stricken areas in Shaanxi Province to experience the culture and life of Britain through mutual help.
Mark Leighton, chief representative of Plan China, stated that Plan will invest USD51,920 in the program which will help 20 poor schools from Pucheng and Chunhua in Shaanxi Province to become sister schools with 20 of their counterparts in the Great Britain. Leighton hopes that the fund will be used for exchange and curricular activities between students of the two countries as well as teacher and student training. It is estimated that over 1,000 students will benefit from the program.
Under the school twinning program, an exchange platform will be set up between students from China and Britain by arranging for them to write letters to each other, holding themed activities and setting up a school-parent-teacher instruction team.
