The Capital Philanthropy Federation has announced that December 3 will be Capital Philanthropy Day and it will hold public welfare activities on that day to promote charity undertakings in the city.
Cheng Liyan, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Donation Center, introduced that though Beijing has made dramatic progress in public welfare, there are still problems with donations. To ensure a legal, orderly and healthy development of the capital city's public welfare undertakings and bring philanthropy's role in the social safety net into full play, the third day of December of each year is to be designated Capital Philanthropy Day.
On the Capital Philanthropy Day, companies and individuals that have made contributions to the capital's public welfare sector during the year will be honored and the charity programs for the next year will be publicized. Cheng said that on this year's Capital Philanthropy Day, a charity party will be held at Beijing's Exhibition Center Theatre with focus on the human interest stories related to the blizzard early this year and the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan with the aim of bringing charity awareness into people's daily life.
Established in 2007, CPF has had 32 members. By providing two-way services to both the government and the charity organizations, CPF works to push forward Beijing's philanthropy development.
