Sinar Mas Group-APP China has released its 2008 third quarter report on its Paper Industry Contract With China commitment.
This is the first quarterly report since APP China formulated the Paper Industry Contract With China Sustainability Declaration in June 2008.
This quarterly report reviews and summarizes the progress of commitments APP China has made in meeting the Sustainability Declaration, including forestry sustainability, clean production and emission reduction, corporate social responsibility programs' progress, and other honors.
The report also points out that the sustainability of the papermaking industry is confronted with the issues of low energy efficiency, environmental pollution, climate change, resource constraint, globalization, regional responsibility, population change and employment. Sustainability is a global consensus and governments are unable to meet the challenge alone and are encouraging companies to make commitments and to transform sustainability into actual business practices rather than regarding regarding it as the cost and risk factor. APP China says that it hopes that their open and transparent communication would encourage more papermaking enterprises to share their experiences and to ensure the sustainable development of China's papermaking industry through more responsible corporate management behavior.
The Paper Industry Contract With China Sustainability Declaration includes 22 clauses covering: sustainable forest management; clean production; energy saving and emission reduction; fulfilling corporate citizenship responsibility and supporting community construction; and setting clear goals for water consumption.
