The High Performance Computer Standardization Committee of the Chinese Electronics Standardization Association and the China Electronic Standardization Institute have jointly set up a high performance computer energy saving review lab in Shanghai to carry out testing and certification on the energy consumption of relevant electronics products.
Zhang Hongtu, deputy director of CESI, says that the establishment of the new lab will effectively regulate the energy saving review system of the high performance computer applications and make contributions to China's energy saving and environmental protection efforts.
The energy consumption of IT products has become a major factor that has affect the global environment. It was estimated that the total energy consumption of China's electronic goods reached 30-50 billion watts in 2007, of which high performance computer centers, servers and data center consumption accounted for a large part.
To promote the conservation of energy for high-performance computing, the High Performance Computer Standardization Committee of the Chinese Electronics Standardization Association set up high performance computer energy saving standard project team at the beginning of 2008. According to Yang Chong, president of Shanghai Lanqi Technology Co., Ltd which is one the founders of the high performance computer energy saving standard project team, the team has been working smoothly in the past few months.
