Following previously reported news of problematic crabs and turbot fish, another aquatic product has been found to have health risks. Eleven samples of mandarin fish have been found to contain poisonous chemical malachite green dye in Hong Kong.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong has called on citizens to stop eating mandarin fish temporarily. According to the report of Hong Kong media, the food security center of FEHD has carried out a survey on 15 samples of mandarin fish, the results of which show that 11 of them contained the banned chemical malachite green dye.
Though the content of the chemical in these samples is quite little, citizens are still suggested not to have mandarin fish for the moment, and retailers of mandarin fish have also been asked to stop selling the goods.
Professor Chen Yongquan from Guangdong Province says that little malachite green dye intake won't cause cancer, so consumers needn't panic.
